Dental implants are the most effective formula for replacing lost teeth and they are designed to camouflage among your other teeth. They are an excellent long-term option to restore your smile.

Dental implants are made of titanium or zirconium, materials that are biocompatible with the human body. They are screws that are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw, where they function as a firm anchor for the new tooth.

A dental implant represents the root of a missing tooth. The implant is placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw with a very simple technique. Once healed, an artificial tooth (crown) is placed on the implant.

Normally the term dental implant represents the different parts of the process: dental implant (root), abutment (root connection) and crown (artificial tooth).

Can crowns be placed on the same day?

Yes, as long as the patient has a high quality bone. The implant will be screwed tightly, so a temporary crown can be added on the same day of the placement. This type of placement is called Immediate Loading.

Normally we do not have such a good bone and a two step loading is performed, which consists of placing the implants and a few months later, performing the prosthesis (Crown).

Prostheses that are placed simultaneously with implants are always Provisional prostheses, which must then be replaced with a Definitive Prosthesis.

What is the postoperative process of an implant treatment like?

Performing Dental Implant Surgery at the Peralta Silverstone Dental Clinic in addition to post-surgical medication to prevent infections and subsequent inflammation, we recommend:

*Apply cold patches (from outside the mouth) on the intervened area.
* Do not eat any food until the effect of anesthesia has completely passed and the numbness has disappeared.
*It is essential to maintain a careful oral hygiene, although it is necessary to avoid brushing the area where the implant has been performed.

Is it a treatment for all people?

Dental implants can be placed in anyone who is missing a tooth and in good health. However, this technique is often discouraged in people taking certain medications or who suffer from a serious uncontrolled health problem. Implants should not be placed in teenagers, as their facial development is still incomplete and can produce negative cosmetic results.

Do dental implants last a life time?

Compared to other treatments such as bridges and removable prostheses, dental implants can be said to be the most durable option.

According to the American Dental Association, the half-life of an implant is 25 years, yet, implants that have been well placed, along with proper care can last much longer.

At the Peralta Silverstone Dental Clinic we use the most advanced techniques in implantology and the latest in dental technology to ensure the long life of your Dental Implant.

What happens if i don’t replace lost dental parts?

1. It affects the aesthetics of your smile and may affect your self-esteem.

2. The loss of more than one dental part in the front part of your mouth will result in the shrinkage of the lip. People who suffer this situation see how their appearance is notoriously aging.

3. Dental loss makes it significantly difficult to pronounce some sounds.

4. When missing a tooth, food hits directly on the gum in the space where the tooth used to be, leading to certain discomfort and even damaging the mucosa. Because of this, people naturally tend to chew on the opposite side of their mouth. This strain causes wear and tear on healthy teeth.

5. Chewing difficulties can negatively affect the swallowing process: not crushing food properly has a direct influence on heavy digestions.

6. The existence of an empty space implies movement of the adjacent teeth towards the gap, creating occlusion and bite problems.

7. Increased incidence of caries and periodontal disease.
